ArangoDB Strengthens Executive Team with New Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Technology Officer
Experienced Field Executive Frank Swain from AppDynamics, Instana, and Splunk named CRO; Jörg Schad, Ph.D. promoted to CTO
San Francisco and Cologne, Germany – October 5, 2021 – ArangoDB, the most scalable open source graph database, today announced it has appointed Frank Swain as Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), as well as promoted Jörg Schad, Ph.D., to Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Swain will serve as the leader of ArangoDB’s global field organization, while Schad will continue to lead ArangoDB’s product development efforts.
Swain is an accomplished go-to-market executive specializing in early stage startups. He served as the first head of sales at Splunk, growing the company’s annual global bookings to $30 million in three years. He went on to do the same at AppDynamics, where he served as the SVP of Worldwide Sales. Most recently, Swain served as Instana’s CRO, which was acquired by IBM in December 2020. While there, Swain oversaw all pre- and post-sale revenue functions, ensuring all aspects of the organization scaled to meet Instana’s business objectives and align to revenue growth.
Schad joined ArangoDB two years ago as its Head of Engineering and Machine Learning after having worked on building database and large scale data infrastructure at SAP and Mesosphere. During his time at ArangoDB, Schad has grown the engineering team, helped shape the product, and built ArangoML, ArangoDB’s solution for large scale Graph Analytics and Machine Learning.
“We are thrilled to have Frank and Jörg join ArangoDB’s executive team,” said Claudius Weinberger, ArangoDB co-founder and CEO. “Frank has an amazing track record helping startups at a similar phase as ArangoDB scale and generate revenue, and Jörg has done an outstanding job guiding our product development to be the most scalable open source graph database on the market.”
“Having spent the past decade in the application performance management space, I know firsthand how complex an organization’s infrastructure can be. I see great potential for ArangoDB and its unique approach to delivering graph analytics, for any data format, at enterprise scale,” said Frank Swain, CRO at ArangoDB. “I look forward to helping ArangoDB scale its go-to-market strategy and teams and help organizations of all sizes leverage the power of graph and beyond.”
“It’s been an honor working with the ArangoDB engineering team to build an amazing scalable graph database over the past couple years,” said Jörg Schad, Ph.D., ArangoDB CTO. “Furthermore, we are all excited to continue taking our vision to the next level with advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities.”
