ArangoDB Releases First Fully-Managed Multi-Model Data Platform with ArangoDB ArangoGraph
A fully-managed graph, document, and key-value database plus search engine with elastic scalability
San Francisco and Cologne, Germany – November 14, 2019 – ArangoDB, the leading open source native multi-model database, today announced the availability of ArangoDB ArangoGraph, the first fully-hosted, managed and monitored native multi-model database service. ArangoDB ArangoGraph runs the full Enterprise version of ArangoDB, bringing all the benefits of native multi-model to the cloud, with additional features to solve enterprise-scale problems and keep data secure.
By uniting graph, document, and key/value data models, along with a full-text search engine, in a single core with the same query language, ArangoDB already gives developers flexibility and efficiency when building their applications. ArangoDB ArangoGraph furthers the benefits already gained with ArangoDB by providing a managed service that will remove the burden of deployment, uptime, maintenance and other tasks involved in database administration. By providing developers an easy way to spin up clusters of any size, at any time, for as long as needed, ArangoDB ArangoGraph makes it easy to focus on application development that can elastically scale up and out as needed.
“Our core belief is developers must be able to easily leverage the right data model for the right job without the complexity of navigating between different databases,” said Claudius Weinberger, CEO and co-founder of ArangoDB. “ArangoDB ArangoGraph makes this vision more of a reality by lifting the burden of database administration and maintenance from organizations, allowing them to focus on their core competency: brilliant application development and delivery.”
The key features of ArangoDB ArangoGraph include:
Cluster deployments on a cloud platform of choice
ArangoDB ArangoGraph lets users set up ready-to-go clusters in minutes, allowing them to easily define the size of their machines and clusters, and choose whether to run on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure (added very soon). Many regions are already available to meet performance, GDPR or CCPA requirements. The size of an ArangoDB ArangoGraph deployment can be adjusted at any time and without service interruptions.
This ArangoGraph-first deployment mode allows users to run scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant deployments with the transactional (ACID) and performance characteristics of a single instance setup. Optimized for graph and multi-tenant use cases, OneShard setups are perfect for delivering all the benefits of a single instance and a cluster setup combined.
Enterprise-grade 360° security
ArangoDB ArangoGraph includes all the advanced security features of the Enterprise Edition of ArangoDB. This includes encryption in transit and at rest using AES-256-CTR, encrypted backups, fine-grained access management and user roles, as well as auditing and data masking to meet GDPR, HIPAA and PCI compliance regulations. The managed service itself adds IP-whitelisting, clear policy and role-based access controls as well as cutting-edge firewalls to keep company and sensible data highly secure.
ArangoDB ArangoGraph enables organizations to run as many deployments as they wish, in any environment (production, staging, or other) and easily arrange them according to their organizational structure. Depending on the use case, customers can choose between various deployment modes to accommodate the specific needs of their application and organization.
Consistent snapshot backups across distributed deployments
With ArangoDB ArangoGraph, users can easily create consistent cluster backups of their deployments — either fully-automated at specified intervals (e.g. hourly/daily/weekly) or on-demand — backup and restore is lightning fast even for huge data sets. And ArangoGraph delivers consistent backups in a distributed setting.
Easily Scale with SmartGraphs, SatelliteCollections, and SmartJoins
By running ArangoDB Enterprise, users get access to all special Enterprise Edition features aimed at enhancing performance across distributed data. These features include SmartGraphs, SmartJoins, and SatelliteCollections which minimize network latency and increase efficiency when running graph queries or JOIN operations across distributed data in a cluster setting.
Availability, pricing and Free-to-Try
ArangoDB ArangoGraph is available immediately on GoogleCloud, AWS. Azure is following very soon. Many regions in the US and EU for these cloud providers are already available. Pricing is on an hourly basis and customers only have to pay for what they actually use.

One database, one query language, and three data models. With more than 7 million downloads and over 8,000 stargazers on GitHub, ArangoDB is the leading open source native multi-model database. It combines the power of graphs with JSON documents, a key-value store, and a full-text search engine, enabling developers to access and combine all of these data models with a single, elegant, declarative query language.
